Add Some Drama

April 11, 2019

Every season there are designers who create pieces that are a major yes. Statement tops have been a thing for a while now—they aren’t really new—we’ve seen everything from dramatic bell sleeves, shoulder cut-outs, ruffles, and puff sleeves. Here’s the thing, when Marc Jacobs designs whimsical statement tops filled with volume and drama, it needs to be in my wardrobe.

I’d prefer drama to not have a place in my social life but it definitely belongs in my closet so I had to take back this button-down from Marc Jacobs’ Spring 2019 Ready-to-Wear collection. Is it even fair to call this top a button-down? The exaggerated ruffle neckline and sleeves of sheer floral metallic fabric is just pure perfection.

What I love about statement tops—aside from being romantic and feminine—are the various ways they can be worn. You can pair them with skirts, shorts, denim or trousers; and you can always layer them underneath a blazer or coat. They are so versatile and have endless styling options! What’s your favorite way to style a statement top?

I was wearing:

Top: Marc Jacobs

Pants: Alexander McQueen

Shoes: Jimmy Choo
