I can’t help it, every season I manage to spot a new trend on the runway that I must participate in. To start, this means translating the exaggerated runway looks into more wearable street style looks.
Well, this past season Marc Jacobs, Kenzo, Jacquemus, and Saint Laurent all displayed the most alluring puffed shoulders I have ever seen! A repeat trend from the 80’s, think of Lady Diana Spencer’s wedding dress with those high-column sleeves that were just breathtaking. Puffy sleeves are back—in fact, they’re getting bigger and bolder.
While the versions seen on the runway were not the most practical for day-to-day style, I knew instantly I would have to add ultra-wearable puffed sleeves to my wardrobe. There is a lot of romance and femininity that comes with this eye-catching trend, especially if you are petite. I find this added volume definitely helps to create a more amped-up presence. Several of my favorite designers, have managed to capture the beauty of the dramatic sleeve/shoulder in very wearable silhouettes. Whether you are making a selection to wear on repeat or on that one-time special occasion, there are a number of ways to participate in this inflated shoulder trend. From stand-out dresses to puffed sleeve blouses, flirty polka-dot silks or elevated one-shoulder pieces, check out some of my favorites in the slideshow below!
